Before that year the ladies at Orleans Country Club, Newport Country Club, Dufferin Heights, and St. Johnsbury Country Club, as well as the former Barton Country Club, used to have exchange invitationals. Then Orleans decided to include the neighboring clubs in one tournament which has always been held the second Thursday in September.
Sixty four golfers from all over Vermont showed up this Thursday to compete for the honors and the numerous donated prizes, one for each player.
Excited to be first time winners were Kathy Mee and Dora Pealer, playing out of Williston, and shooting low gross of 74, one over par.
Net winners from the local area were Karen Bennett of the host club and Paulette Webster of Newport Country Club.
Other gross winners in the top ten were as follows: 76-Terry Kelley and Marcy Mastin, Orleans; also, Cindy Paquet, Essex, and Kathy Albright, Crown Point; 77-Jane Horton, Orleans, and Doris Wildes, Country Club of Vermont; also, Mary Corey, Cedar Ridge, and Ann Goodrich, Burlington; 80- Nancy Devaux and Kathy Sikora, West Bolton; 82-Barbara Shifflers, Rocky Ridge, and Carla Desnoyers, Champlain; also, Deedee Izzo, Neshobe, and Sue Bremmer, Rocky Ridge; also, Rose Harper and Mary Ann Silvester, Orleans.
Other net winner were 62-Sandy Jarvis, Williston, and Joan Montour, Orleans; also, Irma Heater, Cedar Ridge, and Ellie Messier, Rocky Ridge; also, Grace Jones, West Bolton, and Susie Ewens, Enosburg Falls; 63-Linda Upton and Stella Sargent, Copley; 65-Sandra Towns and Sally Goss, St. Johnsbury; also, Sue Rhodes and Sandy Corrigan, Orleans; also Pam Shover and Janet Hayden, Williston; 66-Carol Troup and Pat Hunt, Orleans; 68-Gail Davis, Williston, and Perry Duso, Enosburg Falls.
A luncheon followed with several door prizes and favors of cheese and cheese knives.
The tournament committee included sisters Carol Boucher, Jane Horton, and Bev Gage, along with Karen Bennett and Joyce Oeschger.
